Okay, I confess. My nose is stuck in a book. I picked up The Shack by William P. Young at my local library yesterday, and I’m plowing through it. It’s good so far…

Talk to y’all when I finish it!

The Book Meme: Page 56, Nearest Book

November 15, 2008 · 7 Comments

The rules for this meme thing are :

  • Grab the nearest book.
  • Open it to page 56.
  • Find the fifth sentence.
  • Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
  • Don’t dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.

My book is A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson. I just finished it late last night and it’s in a pile of books to return to the library.

The fifth sentence on page 56 of A Walk in the Woods is “The sun was shining.”

Which totally doesn’t capture the spirit of the book, so let’s try this one, two sentences earlier: “Peggy had almost persuaded him to persevere, to try for just another week, but in the end he had broken down and wept quietly and asked from the heart to be let go home.”

I’m now supposed to ask 3 bloggers that I know of to do the same:

Day Off

May 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Well, I was PLANNING to take the girls to the zoo today, since Big Sis doesn’t have school. But then, while I was in the shower, Little Sis apparently jumped on her bed and landed on about 13 different hard plastic toys on her floor. Which I’d told her to clean up.

I get out of the shower to find Little Sis soaking her feet in my bathroom sink, and the bottom of one of her toes bleeding, with several layers of skin peeled away. Ewww.

So I bandaged her up, with strict instructions to LEAVE THE BANDAGE ON. She usually peels it off after about 10 minutes.

So no zoo today. Too much walking. We’ll go out to breakfast, and then maybe the library or bookstore.
